Born on 20th December, 1947, Dr. Amit Mitra did his Masters in Economics from Delhi School of Economics in 1970 and further attained the Doctorate Degree in Economics from Duke University, USA in 1978. He has a long teaching experience in India and USA. He was a lecturer for three years in Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi. Later he taught in various Universities in USA for about a decade - was Assistant Professor, Franklin and Marshall College, USA, (1983-86); was Director, Centre for Asian, African and Latin American Studies, Franklin Marshall College (1986-90); was visiting Professor, University of Virginia, USA (Spring Semester 1994). He has been a recipient of Sears-Roebuck Foundation Award for Distinguished Teaching, 1990. Furthermore, he has wide Post Doctoral Research experience as senior consultant and has undertaken many commissioned research projects of importance from various national and international organizations. He has been appointed as the Chairman of the Radio Broadcasting Policy Committee by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India. He is on the Board of Directors of the IDBI-Principal Asset Management Company Limited, Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL), Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL). He is also a Member on the Advisory Board of The India Fund of The Unit Trust of India (UTI), Member, Central Listing Authority, established by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), Member of the "India-China Eminent Persons Group" from the Indian side and Member, Advisory Committee to Union Commerce Minister of India on International Trade (WTO). He was appointed as Vice Chairman of Two Member S V Iyer Committee for suggesting Alternative Scheme of Collecting Excise Duties by Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, Govt. of India
1947年12月出生，印度德里大学经济学硕士、美国杜克大学经济学博士。曾于美国及所主要大学执教经济学并在不同国家和国际组织进行研究工作。曾在印度最大的钢铁生产公司、最大的天然气公司担任董事职位，任印度联合信托（UTI）中印度基金的顾问中央顾问委员会成员、中央电子监管委员会成员、人寿保险理事会理事、“中印杰出人物集团”（India-China Eminent Persons Group）印方成员、在印度国际贸易暨世界贸易组织问题上任商业联合部长顾问委员会顾问、印度财政部税收司两人委员会成员等职。
